He attended and played football at both Cowley County Community College and The University of Kansas. Dick served in the US Army and also played football while in the Army. He earned a Bachelor’s of Science from the University of Kansas in 1954. After college, he went to work for Prudential insurance, where he worked for over 50 years.

Dick married Barbara Brass in 1967, they later divorced. One child was born of this marriage, Angela. He married Wanda Shafer in 1981. They enjoyed 34 years of marriage and lived in Overland Park, prior to their move to Hillside Village in De Soto in 2015.

He was a member of the Holy Cross Lutheran Church, a Kiwanis Club International member, a Johnson County Master Gardener, and a member of the Korean War Veterans Association. He was drafted during the Korean War, but was not deployed prior to the end of the war. However, he was a proud Veteran and he assisted in fundraising and planning efforts for the Korean War Veteran’s Memorial in Overland Park and for many years made sure brochures were stocked at the Memorial. He was a life-long KU Jayhawk fan, especially enjoying KU basketball. He was a strong yet gentle and loving husband, father, grandfather, sibling and friend to all. His memory will live on though his family and those he touched throughout his life.

He is survived by: wife Wanda Reinking, currently of De Soto; daughter Angie and husband Chris Bartak of Lawrence KS; stepchildren Jerry Shafer of Topeka, KS and Lory Boos and husband Ray; sisters Millie Maxson of Midland, TX and Barbara Goforth of Lawrence, KS and brother Phil Reinking of Arkansas City, KS.
