Obituary for William E Goodwin
William E. “Bill” Goodwin, 77, of Linwood, KS, passed away after battling a long illness Friday, November 26, 2021. Bill was born on April 28, 1944 in Kansas City, MO to Irene Jo (Sumner) Baty and Gordon Albert Goodwin. He grew up in Kansas City, MO attending Southeast High School before entering military service with the US Army in 1962. He retired after 20 years of service, with honors, the summer of 1982.
In 1969, he met and married the love of his life, Carol Jean (Bicanek) Goodwin. He passed one month shy of their 52nd anniversary. Together, they had 3 beautiful daughters. Even through his many of years of service to his country, he was most proud of and felt his greatest achievements were his grandkids. He was an avid Chief’s fan, loved John Wayne, and in retirement enjoyed building model ships and air planes.
He is survived by his wife, Carol, of the home; daughters Robin Hicks and husband Duane, of Bonner Springs; Stephanie Marshall and husband Dan of Linwood; Kelley Hazell and husband Scot of Olathe; grandchildren Michelle Hicks, Alexandria Heuer, Alyssa Heuer, Michael Heuer, Olivia Hazell, Wyatt Marshall and Cooper Marshall; brothers James Baty and Stephen Baty. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son-in-law.
Visitation will be Friday, December 3, 2021 10 am at Cedar Crest Memorial Chapel in De Soto, KS with services to follow at 11am. Burial will follow at Lenape Cemetery, Linwood KS.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting memorial contributions in his name to the Army Emergency Relief fund.
