William (Bill) S. Overbey
Bill passed away September 26, 2016. He was born May 6, 1929 to Robert P. and Beulah (Ashbrook) Overbey in Urich, Missouri and married Louise Ringen on August 14, 1955. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, two sisters and his son Stephen.
Bill received Bachelor’s Degrees from Southwest Baptist University and Drury University, and obtained a Master’s Degree from K-State University. Bill served his country during the Korean Conflict between 1951-1953. He was a member of the 187th Airborne Regimental Combat Team. Bill was a basketball coach and teacher at Creighton, MO and Onaga, KS High Schools and a basketball coach, teacher and counselor at Oak Park High School, KC North for 30 years.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Louise, his children Jeff (Kim) Overbey, Janie (Rick) Zelter, Stacey (Perry) Sprague, his grandchildren Morgan (Keith), Briana (Matt), Mallory, Matthew, Mitchell, Kellie, Mason, Dillon and Myles and his great grandchild, Colton. Bill leaves behind a sister Bobbie Bohannon and sister-in-laws, Jean Overbey and Shirley Briggs.
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 30, 6:00pm at North Cross UMC, 1321 NE Vivion Road, Kansas City, MO 64118. Funeral services, October 1, 10:00am at North Cross UMC.
