Obituary for Vickie Lester (Grazier) Koehn
Vickie Lester (Grazier) Koehn, age 77 of North Kansas City, Missouri received her heavenly wings on May 5, 2021. A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 14, 2021 at 2:00 PM with visitation from 1-2:00 PM at Cedar Crest Memorial Chapel, 32665 Lexington Ave., De Soto, KS 66018. Burial to follow at De Soto Cemetery, De Soto, KS..
She was born on January 14, 1944 to the parents of Lester William Grazier, Sr. and Evelyn Josephine Deay.
Vickie was baptized Catholic and a firm believer in her faith. She was a wonderful wife and loving companion to Robert (Bob) Koehn for 54 years and an exceptional mother to three beautiful children, Lisa Ann, Dena Jo and Michael Eugene.
Vickie lived a long, fulfilling and amazing life. While most of us walk through everyday life as just another day, not Vickie, there was always a sense of a mission that needed to be accomplished. If she could help someone she would, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Vickie was an avid reader, and on multiple occasion she would be reading two books simultaneously. There was nothing she truly shied away from. She even tried her hand at knitting and crochet, but if she was not doing those things, she enjoyed competing with the contestants on the game show Jeopardy.
Vickie’s resolve served her well in overcoming the obstacles that make her the person she became. Vickie was born legally blind and at an early age was enrolled at Kansas State School for the Blind in Kansas City, Kansas. In addition to graduating from the school, the school also served as the catalyst where she was introduced to multiple people that influenced her life and lead to decisions that would last a lifetime. She was a single mother doing her best while working various jobs when she met the love of her life Bob Koehn, and from this union, two children were born. Now what was once a trio became a quintet or as we put it “The Koehn Family”. Vickie went on to attend Kansas City Community College, and while the odds were against her, she persevered, and was the first in her immediate family to graduate with a degree. With that degree, she opened her own home daycare where multiple children passed through. From there, she returned to Kansas City Community College as a teacher in the daycare program.
Vickie was very determined and nothing was going to stop her. If Vickie wanted to do something or go somewhere, God forbid someone to tell her “No” because she was going to prove you wrong, and Bob could attest to this by her whisking him various places during their empty nesting years. If you were to ask Vickie what her greatest accomplishments were, she would share that it was having her three children, watching their lives flourish beyond her wildest dreams, marrying the love of her life, traveling, spending time with her family, speaking often with her grandchildren, and learning to know her great grandchildren.
If you asked Vickie if she thought her life was hard, she would respond “No harder than anybody else, I just have different obstacles to overcome. Because of this, I am able to fully enjoy any achievement that may have once been a slight difficulty. But basically, I can do anything everybody else does, so what is the issue?”
Vickie leaves her husband Robert (Bob) Koehn of the home, two daughters; Lisa Ann (Jerry) Williams of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Dena Jo Koehn of Lawrence, Kansas, and one son Michael Eugene Koehn of Kansas City, Missouri. Grandchildren Robert (BJ) E. Stallings, Jr., Jerrica (Stormy) Williams, Mackie E. Jones, and Justin Koehn. Great -Grandchildren: Mya Mendoza, Nevaeh Malone, Penelope Stallings, Zelena Jones, Killian Jones, Ravone Hall and several step great grandchildren.
Vickie was welcome home by her parents and her brothers: Lester (Butch) W. Grazier, Jr. and Leonard (Peewee) L. Grazier, all of whom precede her in death.
