Obituary for Tommy Simpson

Thomas A (Tommy) Simpson passed away after a short illness on February 22, 2026. He is survived by his beloved parents, Tom and Anne Simpson; his sister Mo Caro and her family (brother-in-law Zac, nephew Teddy and nieces Jubilee and Izzy); and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Tommy was born on October 25, 1990 in Spokane, Washington. Feisty from birth, Tommy didn’t let Down syndrome, autism, or Type 1 diabetes get in his way. Our family moved to Denver, Colorado when he was six; then to Tucson, Arizona when he was twelve; to Cajamarca, Peru when he was 21; and finally to De Soto, Kansas when he was 25. Tommy didn’t slow us down, either! Tommy was nonverbal but he certainly communicated well. His favorite activities were traveling, eating out, and watching Disney movies. We traveled extensively in the US where we have visited numerous national parks with his sister’s family as well as travel throughout South America. Life with Tommy was wonderful and we are grateful and privileged to have had him as part of our family. There will be a service at the De Soto United Methodist Church, where he found a second home, sometime in the near future. Tommy was an organ donor and was able to touch other people’s lives with his gifts. Knowing that Tommy was loved by so many is a great comfort as we look at our future without our beloved boy.

Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 18, 2026 at 11 am at the De Soto United Methodist Church in De Soto, Kansas. The service will be streamed live on the church Facebook page, and available later on the church YouTube channel.
