Obituary for Sharon Rose Elrod
Sharon Rose Elrod, 65, of Overland Park, KS passed away peacefully on August 10, 2018 at Kansas City Hospice House. Memorial services will be held on Friday August 17, 2018 from 6-8:00 PM at Cedar Crest Memorial Chapel, 32665 Lexington Ave., De Soto, KS.
Sharon was born August 1, 1953 in Lawrence, KS to Earl and Geneva Phillips. She grew up in De Soto and graduated from De Soto High School in 1971, where she met Ted Elrod. They were married in 1972, and enjoyed 36 years together. They raised their boys David and Darin in Overland Park.
Sharon's house was always open for the neighborhood kids to hangout at. She was generous with spirit, as well as possession. Although she struggled to retell it; she loved to hear a good joke and loved to laugh. Sharon was quite ornery; it was not uncommon for friends or family to wake up from a nap with fingernail polish on their nails or makeup on their faces.
Sharon was a loving mom and grandma. Sharon loved to spend time with her grandchildren. She would smile with pride watching them play and run about. They loved to play any game that Grandma Unchi (Ojibwa for Grandma) wanted to play. She will be missed greatly.
Sharon was proud of her Native American heritage. She did all the leg-work to track down her genealogy and participated in many native ceremonies to learn "Native way". Sharon was proud to be Ojibwa, Saginaw Chippewa, Swan Creek Band, Turtle Clan.
She is preceded in death by her parents Earl and Geneva Phillips and son David Elrod.
Survivors include: son Darin (Carrie) Elrod; grandchildren Anna and Augie Elrod of Overland Park, KS; brother Gary (Roxanne) Phillips of Olathe, KS.
