Obituary for Roger L. Simmons

Roger L. Simmons, 86, of De Soto, KS, departed this life March 3, 2015. Roger was born Oct. 25, 1928 in Independence, IA to Ernest and Hazel (Steele) Simmons. Funeral services will be held at 7:00 PM on March 5 with visitation from 5:30-7:00 PM at Cedar Crest Memorial Chapel, 32665 Lexington Ave., De Soto, KS. Roger enlisted in the US Army and honorably served his country in Korea. Following his stint in the service, Roger attended business college in Minneapolis, MN. He retired in 1985 from Chevrolet Motor Division of General Motors, Kansas City, after 35 exemplary years. Roger married Elizabeth McAninch, whom he met when both worked at Chevrolet, in 1953. Four children were born to this union. Roger served 16 years on the De Soto School Board. He loved hunting, fishing, gardening, KU basketball and KC Royals. In later years, Roger was often accompanied by his faithful furry friend Roxie. Roger was preceded in death by his parents and Elizabeth, his wife of 52 years. He is survived by his sister, Audrey Rugh (David), Springhill, FL; children Michele Simmons (David Fuston), Liberty, MO, Craig Simmons, De Soto, Teresa Winston (John) Stilwell, KS, David Simmons, Shawnee, KS; grandchildren Chad Simmons (Jennifer), Gardner, KS, Sarah Winston, Louisburg, KS; Cody Simmons (Jessica), De Soto, KS; Nick Fuston, KCMO and Chris Fuston, Chicago, IL; great-grandchildren Cayden, Cialey and Cason; and many nieces and nephews. ��� The family suggests donations to De Soto VFW Post 6654, P.O. Box 54, De Soto, KS 66018.��
