Edwin Keith Hughes II, who everyone knew as "Rocky", was born January 4, 1950 to Euleta and Keith Hughes in Kansas City, MO. Rocky had three younger brothers-Mike, Todd and Mel. When Rocky was one, him and his parents moved to Alaska for a year then to Linn County, KS and finally settled in Merriam, KS where Rocky attended school. Rocky played football, basketball and baseball at Shawnee Mission North High School where he graduated from in 1968. He received a football scholarship, but after attending college a short while he decided it was time to serve his country in the military. In 1969, Rocky enlisted in the Marine Corps and was deployed to Vietnam in 1970. Rocky was promoted to Sergeant and spent 11 months in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged in 1975, but would remain a Marine for life.

Rocky had many occupations throughout the years. He was a police officer in Merriam and Leawood, a youth supervisor at the Johnson County Juvenile Detention Center, a carman for the Missouri Pacific Railroad, a security guard at Woodlands Race Track and a Millwright for Allied Signal Aerospace (Honeywell) from 1985 to retirement in 2014.

Rocky married the love of his life Pam Parr on January 16, 1981. His children are Joe (Wendy) Moore and Lindsey (Tony) Cirrintano. His ten grandchildren are Kaleb, Tyler, Kelsy, Josie, Cheyenne, Scout, Jonah, Knight, River and Journey.

Rocky was the best of the best. He loved God, his family and his country. He was loving, very dependable, creative and fun. He loved camping at the "little farm" with his brothers and later traveling and camping in a RV with Pam. He loved coaching his kids in sports and later watching his grandkids play sports. He was a kid at heart and spent many hours playing army men with his grandsons on the floor of his living room. He loved to read, he loved the outdoors, a good western, cowboy hats and boots and good food. He never knew a stranger and was a great storyteller. Rocky was an incredible husband, dad, father-in-law, son, son-in-law, brother and friend. He will be missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

On April 11, 2021, heaven gained an exceptional angel. Rocky passed away suddenly and unexpectedly while on a camping trip. His final moments were spent around a campfire with his wife and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, brother Mel, his in-laws and many other family members and friends. His family is taking comfort in knowing that he pain free and reunited with loved ones.
