Mary "Lois" McDaniel 85 of De Soto KS, passed away peacefully on March 3, 2026, Graveside services will be held March 13, 2026, at 1:00 PM De Soto Cemetery, De Soto KS.


She was born Dec. 11, 1940, in Lanape KS. Mary lived a life filled with love, dedication and joy.

Lois was a woman of many talents and passions. She spent years working diligently at Schlage Lock while also dedicating herself to her family. A skilled seamstress, she lovingly sewed cloths for her family members. Her green thumb was unmatched-she was particularly known for planting amazing tomatoes and tending to her garden under the warm sun. Lois's love for cats was boundless; she cared for countless feline companions throughout her life.  

Her hobbies brought joy not only to herself but to those around her. Whether playing Mexican Train, 21, or any card game imaginable, Lois's competitive spirit shone brightly. She had a knack for winning games and an even greater talent for making holidays special with her delicious pies. Her warmth and generosity touched everything and everyone around her-she truly spoiled everything she touched with love.

Lois's legacy is one of hard work, kindness, and an enduring love for life's simple pleasures. Her memory will be cherished by all who knew her.

May her memory bring comfort to those who loved her.

Preceded in death by parents William and Mary Chance,5 siblings and a stepdaughter.

Survived by her devoted husband Jerry McDaniel; Son Scott Smith and daughter Shelly Canaan. Stepson Bill McDaniel, stepdaughter Marla Potter. Brother Clarence Chance, 19 grandchildren and many great grandchildren.
