Obituary for Martin Varvil Sr.
Martin Reed Varvil Sr., 61, of De Soto, KS passed away peacefully at Overland Park Regional in Overland Park, KS on January 21, 2015 due to respiratory failure following COPD. Martin will be buried in a private ceremony on January 31, 2015. A memorial service will take place on January 31st at 2:00 PM at Elm Grove Baptist Church , Bonner Springs, KS. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Martin's life. Martin was born on October 1, 1953 in Reno, Nevada to Nancy Hanks and Elmer Varvil. He graduated from Fremont High School in 1972. He married his first wife Gale in the 1970's. They had two sons together, Martin Varvil Jr. and Christopher Varvil. Though he didn't get to raise his sons, he always loved them and wanted to be the best dad he could be. In 1985 he then met Barbara (nee Owsley) and they married on March 1, 1986. They had one daughter, Ruby. He was able to teach her how to fish, fix cars and love with all your heart. He welded, which is one thing he was very good at, for many years. Martin was very loving and a supportive father and husband with a passion for talking and telling off the wall jokes. He loved to scrap out cars. He could easily tell you his entire life story and talk your ear off, but it was always worth listening to. He was able to make many friends easily. He was loyal and trustworthy. Martin is survived by: wife Barbara Varvil of the home; sons Martin Jr. and Christopher Varvil of Wilson, OK; daughter Ruby Varvil and fiance Cody O'Leary of the home; mother Nancy Hanks of MI; brothers Darrell and Paul Varvil of Gardner, KS; grandson Blake Varvil of OK; nieces Jamie Varvil and Rachel Lopez and nephew Ryan Varvil. Preceded in death by: father Elmer, grandmother and grandfather.
