Obituary for Louis (Lou) Arnold Whitten
Louis (Lou) Arnold Whitten, 85, of Eudora, Kansas, passed away on Wednesday, July 15, 2020 at KU Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas.
Graveside services with Military Honors will be held on Wednesday, July 22, 2020, 11:00 a.m., at Eudora Kansas Cemetery, 2223 North 1400 Road. Please social distance and wear a mask.
He was born on March 24, 1935 in Mapleton, Maine, son of Ernest Whitten and Elizabeth Kinney (nee) Stewart .
Lou was united in marriage to Mary (Connie) Cornelia Corbidge on February 9, 1956. She survives of the home.
He joined the United States Army with the Big Red One out of Fort Riley, Kansas on May 28, 1952 and was honorably discharged as a Sergeant First Class on May 27, 1960. While serving overseas, he was awarded a National Defense Service Medal, Army Occupation Medal (Germany) and a Good Conduct Medal. After serving his time in the Army, he worked for 28 years in Lawrence, Kansas at Cooperative Farm Chemical Association, and finished his career at Barstow School in Kansas City, Missouri.
Lou was a die-hard arm chair manager for the Kansas City Royals. He also loved the Kansas City Chiefs and the Kansas Jayhawks.
He had a kind and giving heart, and would feed less fortunate families in the community during the holidays.
Other survivors include his children, Mary Elizabeth Pemberton, Delaware; Thomas Earnest (Arlene) Whitten, Eudora, Kansas; Virginia Alice Whitten, of the home, Eudora, Kansas; William John (Lori) Whitten, Eudora, Kansas. Grandchildren, Shannon Steffan, Clayton Whitten, Brent Whitten, Joseph Whitten, Sara Petry, Michael Whitten, Heather Erickson, Mark Petry, Alexander Whitten, Nicole Whitten. Ten great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, brothers Thomas, Joseph, Jere, sister Dorothy Simes, several nieces and nephews, and Gracie May (his beloved dog).
He was preceded in death by his parents, infant brother William, Ike, Dale, and Roger. Son Joseph Arnold Whitten, and infant great-granddaughter Olivia Katherine Elizabeth Whitten.
