Obituary for John Eugene Crawford
John Crawford, 56, passed away on October 4, 2016 after a battle with cancer. Many people knew him as “Crawdaddy” or “Chief”. To his children, he was “Daddy” and “Pops”. John was born in Ottawa, Kansas to Edward Crawford and Patricia Shireman Crawford. He attended school in De Soto until the age of eight, John moved with his family to Kingfisher, OK. He graduated from Kingfisher High School in 1978. After graduation, he attended Fire Service Training at OSU and began working as a firefighter and EMT at Kingfisher Fire Department.
In 1986, he married Gina Stough. They had two children, Bryce Thomas and Kayla Danielle. John had a passion for helping others. He was an avid supporter of the Muscular Dystrophy Association and worked for many years coordinating the Kingfisher firefighters “Fill the Boot” campaign.
In 2004, John was promoted to Fire Chief of Kingfisher Fire Department. John loved being a firefighter and took great pride in serving the people of the Kingfisher community. He frequently told stories about his days at the firehouse. Through his years as a firefighter, his fellow fire fighters became lifelong friends. After 28 years, he retired from the fire department, in 2007. In 2013, he began working as the Maintenance Supervisor at Chisholm Trail Technology Center. He was well known there for his good humor and constant smile. Even after becoming ill, he looked forward to going to work and seeing all his friends and co-workers.
John always had an optimistic outlook on life. Even when the odds were against him, he continued to find the positive. He enjoyed fishing, rock and roll music, Facebook, drag racing, and being with family. If you asked John what made him happiest, he would tell you his children and his family. Never a day went by that John didn’t talk about how much he loved his children and being a dad.
John was preceded in death by his mother, Pat; his Uncle Warner and Aunt Katie Langan.
He is survived by his father Edward and wife Claudine; his children Bryce Crawford, Kayla Crawford Howell and husband Derek Howell; Gina Crawford Payne and husband Brent Payne; sister Linda, husband Gary Sewell, their children Ashley Terry and husband Greg, Madelyn Sewell, and Garrett Sewell; sister Julie and husband Kenny Barton, children Stephanie Espolt, Katie Barton and Hallie Barton; brother Jamie and wife Iris Crawford, their children Alicia, Tiffany, and Joshua Crawford.
Funeral Services: October 8, 2016 at Frontline Ministries, 10:00 am and graveside burial at Kingfisher cemetery.
