Obituary for John Allen Ueland
John was the youngest of eight children born to Titus Ueland and Cecelia Olson of Mankato, MN. He is survived by his sister Anita and her husband Len of Wisconsin and his brother Richard Ueland of Minnesota. Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, December 1, 2015 at 12:30PM at Leavenworth National Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday, November 30, 2015 from 6-8:00PM at Cedar Crest Memorial Chapel, 32665 Lexington Ave., De Soto, KS 66018. John was born on June 7, 1945 and passed away on November 22, 2015. He was a resident of Hillside Village in De Soto, KS. John enlisted in the army in 1966 and was honorably discharged in February of 1972. He served his country in Vietnam and was an 11th Armored Calvary's Veterans of Vietnam and Cambodia Life member. He was also a life member of the V.F.W. Post #7397 in Lenexa, KS. John achieved the rank of Sergeant E-5 before he was discharged. John had many friends in his lifetime. His blunt honesty and quirky personality could not be mistaken by anyone that ever met him. He was always there to give a helping hand to anyone he knew that needed help. He was truly generous to all his friends. John was also very entertaining, he loved sharing jokes. When he was younger he played the drums and sang in a band. In his later years, he loved singing karaoke and listening to his favorite tunes on a CD while driving in his car. John befriended many of the people at Hillside Village and I know left quite an impression on his nurses and aides there. John was proud to serve his country and one of his favorite jobs was managing the V.F.W. Post #7397 In Lenexa. He talked about the Post and his many good friends there often. John will missed by his many friends and family.
