James Michael Willis or Mike as he preferred to be called, passed away at the age of sixty-nine on November 22, 2025. He was surrounded by an exceptionally large group of friends and family.
The outpouring of both love and sadness was overwhelming. It was a wonderful tribute to a much-loved Father, Grandfather, Husband, Brother, Co-worker, and Friend.
Mike excelled at many things, but his heart was always in his music. From the first time he picked up a guitar and learned to play “Gloria” for his garage band, music was his lifelong passion. It was fundamental to his life as breathing. He was a gifted performer, and he poured his soul into every note he played. There were few things he loved more than performing for others or simply playing for the joy of it.
Mike was born with a musician’s heart but craftsman’s hands. He spent much of his life working as a skilled carpenter. He built or remodeled every conceivable type of structure. He knew how to do everything that had to do with building or repairing a home. He was always there to help when family or friends called and they called often.
In recent years he worked in transportation for the Wellsville School District and will be fondly remembered by the students and staff he worked with every day.
For all his talents Mike will be remembered most for his over-the-top sense of humor. He was delightfully crazy, never shied away from zany antics or costumes. He brought laughter wherever he went and had a way of making ordinary moments unforgettable.
Mike cannot be replaced in our hearts or lives. His legacy will live on in the lives he touched, the melody of his music, craftsmanship of his work and the laughter he shared.
Mike is preceded in death by his parents, Beverly and Jimmy Willis, his sisters Anita, Karen Kay, Brenda, and Beth Ann.
He is survived by his loving wife Judy, his children Chris (Michelle), Sammy Jo (Jake), Becky (Brandon), Ivory (Justin), Robert and Heather and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. A large family that brought him immense joy and love.
