Hettie Earlene Cundiff (known to family and friends as Earlene), 97, of Lenexa, KS passed away July 10, 2022 in Gardner, KS.
Visitation and Memorial services will be held Friday, July 15, 2022 at 10:00 am at Cedar Crest Memorial Chapel, 32665 Lexington Ave, De Soto, KS 66018. Burial at Shawnee Memory Gardens.
Earlene was born November 9, 1924 in Enid, Oklahoma, the daughter of Earl Stephens and Callie Hopson Stephens, sister of Ruth Stephens Pitts, Hazel Stephens Dennis, Evelyn Stephens and Kenneth Stephens.
She graduated from Enid High School in 1942 with honors and 12 years of perfect attendance. In 1950 she married Jay E. Cundiff. They had four children and raised their family in Roeland Park, KS. Earlene had many jobs through the years, while raising her family. She worked at TWA with her husband, she was an X-ray technician and a CNA for a time. In her later years she was co-owner of The Wash Tub laundromat.
She is preceded in death by her husband Jay E. Cundiff who died in 1983, her mother Callie Stephens who also died in 1983, her Father Earl Stephens who died in 1951, her grandson Nathan Cundiff, her sisters Ruth Pitts, Hazel Dennis, Evelyn Stephens and her brother Kenneth Stephens.
She is survived by son Jay E. Cundiff Jr. of Gladstone, MO, son Michael J. Cundiff of Lenexa, KS, daughter Cathy M. Krumme of Faucett, MO, Patrick R. Cundiff of Gardner, KS, 7 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Earlene was a beloved mother and grandmother. She loved collecting dolls and jewelry. She devoted the majority of her time to her four children, eight grandchildren and in later years, her 17 Great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by those that love her.
