Edith Laverne (Brothers) Gilbert 98. Edith passed away on Monday July 8th 2024 at her home in DeSoto, KS just 9 days shy of her 99th birthday.

Edith was born in Utopia, Kansas on July 17th, 1925, to William Elmer Harrison Brothers and his wife Cora May Williamson Brothers.
Edith was a farm girl in spirit all her life, she grew up on a farm outside of Hamilton, Kansas. The family moved into town when she was around 10 years old. Edith graduated from Hamilton High School in 1943 with a class of 29 students, she then went on to take secretarial and office training at Fort Riley Army Base in Manhattan, Kansas. She met and married Clinton Gilbert in 1945, they then had 4 children- Sherrie, Larry, Linda and Dianna.
She lived in the Kansas City, Kansas area where she worked at Pyramid Life Insurance from 1956 to 1970, CertainTeed Corp from 1971-1982. In 1982 for a change of pace she moved to California where her two daughters were living at the time, this move only lasted for a short time. She then moved back to DeSoto in 1988 and worked for Locke Equipment from 1988-1995, she continued to live in DeSoto until her passing. Edith enjoyed dancing, crocheting, quilting and watching the hummingbirds feed from her bird feeder. Edith joined the BNR square dance club around 1998 – she especially enjoyed the line dancing. Later in life she concentrated on her quilting and crocheting interest where she made quilted table runners, crocheted angels and doilies to sell at craft shows.
Edith was preceded in death by her son Larry Clinton Gilbert, ex-husband Clinton Gilbert, parents, an infant sister May Brothers, a brother Elmer Eugene Brothers, and a sister Esther Callen.
She is survived by her daughters Sherrie Clarke of DeSoto, KS, Linda Tucker and her husband Glen of Kansas City, KS, Dianna and her husband Chris Paulsen of Linwood, KS and Pat Gilbert -daughter in law of Linwood, KS Grand children Billy, Travis, Bryan Ruiall, Tracy Tinberg, Shelly Turner, Larry Gilbert Jr, Crystal Matthews, Jeffrey Woods, Glenda Cummins, Chris Paulsen Jr, Cole, Jessie Paulsen and numerous Great- Grandchildren and Great-Great Grandchildren.
Per Edith’s wishes there will not be a funeral or a burial service. She will be laid to rest at Janesville Cemetery in Hamilton, Kansas.
