Obituary for Earl A. Barenklau
Earl Barenklau, 75, of De Soto, KS passed away on May 24, 2017 at Overland Park Regional Medical Center. Visitation will be 6-7:30 PM on Friday, May 26, 2017, at Cedar Crest Memorial Chapel in De Soto, KS. Services will be at 9:00 AM on Saturday, May 27th, at De Soto United Methodist Church with Rev. Jeff Prothro officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens in Olathe, KS.
Earl Ardean Barenklau was born October 12, 1941, in Montrose, SD, to William and Lillian Barenklau. He grew up in South Dakota before moving to Olathe, KS to attend high school.
Earl and Joan Lackey were married on January 19, 1962 in Olathe. They moved to De Soto in 1965 to raise their family. He was a meat cutter for more than 30 years for Safeway before moving to Price Chopper. Earl was involved in the community with service on the De Soto School Board of Education, United Methodist Men, Cub Scouts and coaching softball and baseball. In retirement, he enjoyed “going to the farm” to tend to his cattle, playing golf, attending grandchildren’s activities and watching Jayhawks basketball. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
Survivors include: his wife; son Shon (Terri) of Papillion, NE; daughter Shelley (Heather) of Fairway, KS; grandchildren Caleb and Kelsee Barenklau and Megan and Katie Drake.
He was preceded in death by: his parents and three brothers.
