Debra Lynn Bartholomew was born on September 1st, 1956, to Robert and Donna Bartholomew at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. She grew up in De Soto, KS and graduated from De Soto High School in 1974. She went on to college and graduated with her bachelor's degree from Bethany College in 1978 and then attended KU for three years.
Deb dedicated her career advocating and supporting adults with developmental disabilities. She worked 32+ years at Johnson County Developmental Supports and worked prior to that at Lakemary. Deb met the love of her life at JCDS in 1999, and then had one daughter in 2004. Deb was an amazing, supporting and comforting mother and a loving and caring partner. Besides her love for her daughter, partner, family and friends, Deb had a great love of animals, nature, music, learning, history, reading, and KU basketball. She was happiest at home in her sweatpants and t-shirt, watching a KU basketball game with her daughter and partner, while having a beer, a book, her tablet and one of her many pets by her side. She was the kindest soul with the warmest smile and will be missed desperately. To know Deb was to love Deb. She was a loyal partner, mother, daughter, friend, sister, aunt, niece, and cousin.
We would like to give a warm and heartfelt thank you to the many doctors, nurses, and CNA’s at LMH that cared for Deb (and Kim and Zoey) in the gentlest and loving way for her 20 day stay in the ICU.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the American Cancer Society, Lawrence Humane Society, or the ASPCA.
