Obituary for Charles W. Barnes
Charles William Barnes, age 87, passed peacefully in his sleep on October 16, 2023. Visitation will be on Oct. 23, 2023 from 10:00-11:00 AM at Grace United Methodist Church with services at 11:00 AM.
He was born October 22, 1935, in rural Paola, KS to Roy E. and Lalah Blanche Barnes. He grew up and attended public schools in Ottawa, KS, graduating in the OHS class of 1953. Charles received a BS degree from Pittsburg State University and served in the U.S. Air Force from 1954-1957. He was employed with First National Bank of Ottawa, Monsanto Chemical Co., National Homes Co. and founded Lancer USA Inc.
Charles is survived by his wife Diane Barnes, daughters Linda Prostko (David) of Middleville, MI and Valerie McDonough (James) of Gypsum, CO; stepson Brandon Wier (McKinley) of Dallas, TX; stepdaughter Sara Wagner (Jason) of Overland Park, KS; his grandchildren Scott Henricks, Ashley Augustine, Warren Prostko, J.D. Prostko; 6 great-grandchildren; a brother Wilber G Barnes of Lansing, KS and sister Linda Mankiewich of Mackinimaw, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother R.J. Barnes, and wives Muriel, Pat and Janet.
